THE BOTANICAL SERIES

1. Orange Peel

You’re likely to find that many craft gins use some form of citrus, from lemon to pink grapefruit there are a number of options. Burleighs Master Distiller opts for dried Orange Peel for it’s beautiful citrus aromas that add a fresh bite to our gin. Complimented by Coriander, the citrus flavours are especially apparent when enjoying an ice cold gin and tonic with a healthy wedge of fresh Orange

2. Elderberries

In the world of gin, it’s very common for distiller’s to make use of Eldeflower as a botanical, offering a floral light taste. However here at Burleighs, Jamie Baxter, opts to use Elderberries to pack a rich depth in to the heart of our gin. Once distilled, Elderberries keep much of their tarty nature, with deep jam-like tones. The flavours pair perfectly with our resinous juniper offering a booming forest fruit flavour to the mix.

3. Cardamom Seeds

A modern botanical in the gin world, Cardamom’s aromatic seeds come from a plant belonging to the ginger family. A very unique spice, Cardamom has a pungent aroma that can not be mistaken for any other! Once distilled, Cardamom adds a slightly perfumed flavour to Burleighs Gin with a fiery and slightly smoky finish.

4. Silver Birch

Uncommon in the world of gin distillation, Silver Birch is one of the botanicals that adds too the authentic flavours of the Burleighs Gin range.

Found growing in nearby woodland Burleighs Wood, Jamie Baxter experimented with the flavours of Silver Birch and found that once distilled, emitted beautiful herbaceous flavours and a long lasting eucalyptus finish that Burleighs is now renowned for!

5. Cassia Bark

Cinnamon’s fiery relative! Once distilled, Cassia bark emits flavours somewhat sweeter than cinnamon. As a Burleighs botanical botanical Cassia is used sparingly but it has an earthy tone and a sweet finish, reminiscent of liquorice noticeable towards the finish of our gin!

6. Coriander Seed

Coriander plays a central role in the gin world, it’s quite rare to find a gin that doesn’t use the seed ranking coriander as the second most used botanical after juniper!

Once distilled, coriander presents a citrusy and slightly nutty flavour profile, adding the discernible citrus taste towards the end of the Burleighs flavour journey.

7.Orris Root

The binder of flavour! Orris root is a botanical commonly used in the manufacture of perfumes but plays a key role in flavouring Burleighs Gin. Once distilled, Orris imparts the scent of sweet violets but more importantly, it binds the aromas of the other botanicals together, keeping them from dissipating too soon.

8. Angelica Root

Angelica Root, traditionally found in the Nordics, plays a crucial role in the Burleighs botanical mix. Found in many gin recipes, the root of angelica carries earthy, herbal tones once distilled and is used as a fixative to preserve flavours over time.

9.  Juniper

The humble Juniper Berry. The staple botanical in every gin, bound by law to be the predominant flavour in all gin! Juniper is not a berry as it’s name suggests rather a conifer cone with unusual scales that give it a berry like appearance. Juniper is responsible for the the pungent, piney flavours that we so dearly love in our gin!

BURLEIGHS GIN & TONIC

The fresh fruit accentuates the orange pee used in the botanical mix by Master Distiller, Jamie Baxter, delivering a sweet citrus freshness unique to Burleighs Gin.
